I Am The Master of Low Expectations

“I didn’t grow up in the ocean –
as a matter of fact, near the ocean –
I grew up in the desert. So it’s a pleasant contrast
to see the ocean. And I particularly like it when I’m fishing.

You know, sometimes when you study history,
you get stuck in the past. And you never know what
your history is going to be like until long after you’re gone.

I was looking for a book to read, and my wife said you ought
to try Camus. I also read three Shakespeares.
I’ve got an eck-a-lec-tic reading list.
See, your family is where you find hope,
where wings take dream.

You can hear I speak plainly sometimes,
but you’ve got to be mindful of the consequences
of the words. So put that down.
I don’t know if you’d call that a confession,
a regret,
something.”
